Terms of Service
The terms that apply when you create an account or use Quarterday.
Last updated: 27 August 2026
1. Who we are
Eigen Software Services Ltd, trading as quarterday.io ("Quarterday", "we", "us", or "our"), provides the Quarterday website and budgeting service.
2. Acceptance
These terms form a contract between you and Quarterday. By creating an account or using Quarterday, you agree to these terms.
You must be at least 18 years old to create or use a Quarterday account.
These terms, the terms shown when you choose a plan, and our Cancellation and Refunds Policy govern your use of Quarterday. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
3. The service
Quarterday is a hosted service for personal and household budgeting. It provides an Actual-compatible budgeting application, synchronisation between devices, and optional bank sync. Features and plan limits may change over time as described in these terms.
Quarterday is designed for personal and household use. We do not prohibit business use, but the service is not an accounting, tax, bookkeeping, investment, or financial-advice service. Quarterday is not a bank, does not hold or move your money, and does not make financial decisions for you. You are responsible for checking your records and obtaining professional advice where you need it.
4. Accounts
You must provide accurate information, keep your email address current, protect your login details, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. Do not share login details or allow another person to use your account as their own.
If your plan lets you add other users, each user must access their own account. You are responsible for activity you authorise through your account.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use Quarterday to:
- break the law or another person's rights;
- gain unauthorised access to an account, system, or data;
- introduce malware, disrupt the service, or evade security or usage controls;
- use automated access in a way that places an unreasonable load on the service; or
- resell the service or provide it to others as your own service without our written permission.
We may investigate suspected misuse and take reasonable, proportionate steps to protect Quarterday and its users, including restricting access or removing unlawful content.
6. Your data
You keep any rights you have in the budgets, transactions, files, and other content you add to Quarterday ("your data"). You give us permission to host, copy, process, and transmit your data only as needed to operate, support, and secure the service, comply with law, and follow your instructions. If you choose to share data with another user, you instruct us to make it available to that user.
You are responsible for the data you add and for having the right to use it. Although Quarterday is designed to synchronise and store budgets, you should keep an appropriate export or backup of information you cannot afford to lose.
The Actual budgeting software supports optional end-to-end encryption for individual budgets. If you enable it, the budget contents are encrypted and decrypted on your device, and Quarterday stores only encrypted contents. Quarterday cannot recover the contents if you lose the encryption password.
7. Intellectual property
Quarterday owns its branding and the service components created by us. Other components belong to their respective owners and may be made available under open-source licences. Those licences continue to apply and take priority over these terms where they say something different about the relevant component.
Quarterday uses and is compatible with the open-source Actual budgeting software. Quarterday is an independent service and is not sponsored, endorsed, or operated by the Actual project or its maintainers.
8. Bank sync
Bank sync is optional. Before you connect an account, we tell you which bank-connectivity provider will handle the connection. Its own terms and privacy notice also apply to its services. By completing a connection, you authorise Quarterday and that provider to retrieve the account and transaction information you select.
Available providers, financial institutions, accounts, and regions may change. Bank data may be delayed, incomplete, duplicated, or temporarily unavailable, and a provider may ask you to reconnect or renew consent. You should check imported information against your financial institution's records.
Disconnecting an account stops future collection through that connection but does not automatically delete data already imported into a budget. Bank sync only retrieves information; it does not allow Quarterday to initiate payments or move money.
9. Billing
Trial
New accounts receive a 35-day trial. The trial includes all features except plan membership. You do not need to provide a payment card to start the trial.
A valid payment card is required if you choose to use bank sync during the trial. We do not bill you merely for adding a card, and doing so does not create a paid subscription. If you do not actively choose a paid subscription, the trial ends without a subscription or payment.
If you subscribe during the trial, the trial continues until its original end date and your first payment is due at that point.
Paid plans
We show the price, billing interval, currency, included features and limits, and any applicable taxes before you subscribe. A paid subscription renews automatically for the same billing interval until you cancel it. Stripe processes payments and stores payment-card details under its own terms and privacy notice.
We may change a subscription price. If a change affects an existing subscription, we will give advance notice and it will take effect on a later renewal, subject to applicable law. If a payment fails, we may retry it and allow a seven-day grace period before restricting paid features.
Plan membership
An eligible subscriber may extend access to other users up to the limit displayed for the plan. Plan membership is not available during a trial. Each plan member has their own account and data. A member's plan access ends if the subscriber removes them or the subscriber's plan ends.
10. Cancellation and refunds
You may cancel a paid subscription through the billing settings or by contacting us. Cancellation stops the next renewal. Unless a refund ends access earlier or we terminate access under these terms, paid features continue until the end of the period you have already paid for. Cancel before the renewal date if you do not want the next payment to be taken.
Monthly and annual payments are not refundable merely because you stop using Quarterday or cancel part-way through a billing period. Our Cancellation and Refunds Policy explains the exceptions, including our cooling-off periods.
Nothing in these terms limits any cooling-off, cancellation, refund, or other consumer right that the law gives you and that cannot be excluded by contract.
11. Availability
We provide Quarterday with reasonable care and skill, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation or a particular level of availability. Maintenance, security work, software defects, and services outside our control may cause interruptions.
We may change the service to improve it, keep it secure, reflect changes in technology or law, or manage how it operates. Where reasonably possible, we will give notice before a change that materially reduces a paid feature during a current subscription period. Our Cancellation and Refunds Policy explains your rights if we make a material adverse change. Your statutory rights are not affected.
12. Termination
Ending a trial or subscription does not delete your account or hosted data. You can still export your data, and we retain it until you delete your account or the inactivity rule below applies. Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals without deleting the account. Deleting the account automatically cancels any active subscription. Our Cancellation and Refunds Policy explains the refund consequences of account deletion.
Export any data you want to keep before deleting your account. Our Privacy Policy explains how account deletion and retention work.
We may delete an account that has no active paid or plan-member access and has not been used for more than 12 months. We will email you at least 60 days before deletion and give you an opportunity to sign in or export your data.
We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these terms, use the service unlawfully, create a security risk, or do not pay an amount due. Where reasonable, we will explain the problem and give you an opportunity to put it right. We may act immediately where necessary to protect users, the service, or others, or to comply with law.
If we terminate your account for breach, we will give you 30 days to export your data before deleting hosted data. We may restrict export or delete data sooner where reasonably necessary for security, unlawful use, or compliance with law.
If we discontinue Quarterday, we will give at least 60 days' advance notice and an opportunity to export your data. If the service ends before the end of a period you have already paid for, we will refund the unused part of that period.
13. Our responsibility
We are responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, for errors in information supplied by you or a third party, or for events outside our reasonable control.
If you use Quarterday for business purposes, then, to the extent the law permits, we are not responsible for loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity, anticipated savings, or business interruption.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of your statutory consumer rights, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service, our business, or the law changes. For a material change, we will give reasonable advance notice by email, in the service, or both where practical. The notice will say when the change takes effect. Price changes take effect on a later renewal and do not change a period you have already paid for.
Our Cancellation and Refunds Policy explains your rights if we make a material adverse change during a prepaid period. Otherwise, if you do not accept a change, you may stop using Quarterday and cancel before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the updated terms where the law permits. A change will not retrospectively remove rights that have already accrued.
15. Complaints and disputes
Please contact us first if you have a complaint. We will try to understand the issue and resolve it informally.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, this does not affect any mandatory rights you have under the laws of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in any court permitted by applicable law.
16. Other terms
These terms, the plan terms shown when you subscribe, and the Cancellation and Refunds Policy form the agreement between you and us about the service. If part of the agreement cannot be enforced, the rest continues to apply. A delay in enforcing a right does not waive it.
You may not transfer your account or your rights under these terms to another person. We may transfer our rights and obligations to another organisation, but we will tell you if this happens and the transfer will not reduce your rights.
When these terms require us to give notice, we will send it to the email address on your account and may also display it in the service. Notice is treated as given when sent to your current account email address. This does not itself mean that you accept a change and does not alter any notice requirement imposed by law.
